Getting a clear shot of this striking yellow-tailed black cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus funereus) required patience and luck. I found it to be quite aloof but on this day it was busy eating. The yellow-tailed cockatoo is one of largest species of parrot (55 to 65 cm) and easily identified by its mostly black plumage, with a yellow cheek patch. The total population is estimated to be around 25,000 individuals in Australia.
Trivia: Cockatoos can differentiate between human faces and remember them over long periods. Comments are closed.
